Global trends of green manufacturing research in the textile industry using bibliometric analysis

Resumen

Green manufacturing has gained significant global attention due to mitigating adverse environmental impacts, such as wastewater and carbon footprints, caused by traditional textile manufacturing processes. Though researchers have conducted extensive research on green manufacturing in the apparel sector, still more work is needed to clarify the evolution of this field. This bibliometric review examined the current trends and patterns of green manufacturing research in the textile industry based on 523 documents indexed in the Scopus database. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) 2020 guidance was followed for selecting the studies, while VOSviewer was used to visualise data. The findings indicated a significant rise in research publications focusing on green manufacturing research in the clothing industry from 2013 onwards. This research unveiled five research clusters covering the research topics of life cycle assessment, lean approaches, sustainability, cleaner production, and waste management. China was the leading country for collaboration research in green manufacturing, while the Journal of Cleaner Production was the most prolific in the textile industry’s green manufacturing research. However, this study suggests further research that incorporates different data sources and bibliographic coupling with qualitative analysis. Besides, future researchers must explore circular and digital technologies in textiles.
